Solid Waste Volunteer Opportunities

Become a volunteer!

Get involved in your community to help improve our earth! Solid Waste Volunteers are vital in helping keep residents informed of the constantly evolving changes to recycling in our community.  Volunteers have the opportunity to meet new people, and develop new skills and interests when volunteering with the City of Columbia. Opportunities include events, festivals, school presentations and more to help encourage others to reduce, reuse and recycle. Training and resources are provided by our Volunteer Programs staff and experienced volunteers.

Household Hazardous Waste Collections

Hazardous materials should never go in our landfill!  You can help see that they are “captured” at the City’s household hazardous waste collection days.  Volunteers work two hour shifts consoldating paint or greeting citizens, distribute information, answer questions and keep the traffic flowing.  To join the team, contact us or self-register
