COVID-19/Coronavirus Response Volunteering

Ways you can get involved! 

  • Litter Team events are scheduled for:
    • Saturday, Dec. 5 – 10  a.m. to noon meeting at the corner of Lee Street and Wilson in East Campus
    • Pre-registration is suggested; due to COVID-19 Litter Teams are limited to individuals and families; groups should contact us about arranging their own litter pick up event. 
  • Holiday Lights:opens PDF file   Serve as a driver or judge to decide the best holiday light display in central Columbia!  We are looking for 10-15 volunteers on Sunday, December 13. Meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Armory Sports Center, 701 E. Ash.  Judging should be complete by 8 p.m.  *All positions are currently filled. Contact us to be placed on the waiting list.* 
  • ROC 7K Trail Run – Saturday, January 23, 2021 – Help with this run that starts and ends at Cosmo Park.  Positions include registration, aid station, course direction and finish lines with shift times 7:30-9 a.m., 8:15-10:45 a.m. or 9-11 a.m.  Individuals, small groups and families are welcome!
  • Stonegrinder 7K – Saturday, February 20, 2021 – Stay tuned for more details! 
  • Looking for a project for a group?  We can help you organize a litter pick up event or park project.

      November 2020 Volunteer of the Month - Travis Swearengin

      Travis Swearengin is honored as the City of Columbia’s November Volunteer of the Month for his work with the Douglass baseball program, a non-competitive league for kids 5-10 years old.  Travis serves thTravis Swearengin, November 2020 Volunteer of the Monthe program in several roles: board member, coach and baseball camp leader.

      Travis started volunteering with Douglass baseball four or five years ago after connecting with Camren Cross, Community Recreation Supervisor.  With over 15 years of baseball coaching experience, Travis was interested in using his skills with Columbia Parks & Recreation.
