Utilities such as the City of Columbia’s Sewer, Stormwater and Solid Waste departments face steeper cost increases than the overall consumer price index. In an intricate and ever-evolving dance, Utilities need a multiyear rates plan to balance hitting their revenue requirements with keeping rates affordable for their customers.
To explain how the Utility departments determine revenue sufficiency, cost of service, rate design and customer impact, City of Columbia Utilities and Stantec Consulting will host a Rates 101 presentation at 6 p.m. April 20 in the City Council Chambers. Because of social distancing regulations, in-person attendance will be limited.
For any members of the public who are interested, a video recording of the presentation will be posted to this page April 21.
Residents who will not be able to attend can submit questions through a question form. Questions submitted by April 15 will be forwarded to Stantec for consideration. The question form will remain open until April 23 for any citizens seeking additional information.
