Internal Sustainability

The Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) outlines goals for the City of Columbia to reduce municipal greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2035 and by 100% by 2050. The City of Columbia is committed to “walking the talk”. If we are to encourage our customers to be good stewards of our resources, we must also be good stewards of our resources. Below are some of the ways the City is working towards achieving these goals.

Municipal Building Benchmarking

The City of Columbia passed a municipal benchmarking policy in 2021. Benchmarking data allows for each building’s energy use to be compared to others like it, providing insights on where to prioritize renovations and how to efficiently reduce municipal energy usage.
