Bird is currently the only licensed scooter company in Columbia. By downloading the Bird mobile app, residents and visitors are able to rent and ride these vehicles over short distances.
Scooters are available from dawn to dusk (8 p.m. as of May 6, 2019) on clear weather days within a specific geographic range, as defined by Bird. The operational zone can be found on the Bird mobile app.
The following is a list of general rules for operating Bird scooters in the city of Columbia:
- No riding on sidewalks.
- No riding in public parking structures.
- No riding without a helmet.
- No double riding.
- No riding without a valid driver’s license.
- No riding in City parks or on public trails.
Park scooters in an upright position on flat, hard ground, out of the main sidewalk path. Avoid parking near bus stops, disabled parking zones, parking meters, driveways and other entrances.
To report a parking problem, use the Bird mobile app Community Mode. This free feature sends a report directly to Bird representatives, who will then take appropriate action to resolve the issue.
To Access Community Mode:
- Download the Bird mobile app and create an account
- Click on the Community Mode icon in the bottom right
- Select issue type and provide details
- Submit request
After resolution, the reporting party will receive an email from Bird to confirm that the problem has been addressed.
