Columbia Police Department Explorer Post 207 (ages 14-20)
Dates: The first and third Wednesday of each month
Times: 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Cost: $42 a year (sponsorships may be available)
Being part of the Columbia Police Department Explorer Post 207 will provide educational training programs for young community members on the purposes, mission, and objectives of law enforcement. The Program provides career-orientation experiences, leadership opportunities and community service activities. Explorers will receive training in many different categories, including traffic control, evidence collection, firearm safety and much more. Meetings will be held bi-weekly.
Columbia Police Department Youth Academy (ages 13 to 18)
Dates: August 3rd – 7th, 2020 (5-day program)
Times: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Location: 600 East Walnut, Police Headquarters and other buildings around town.
Cost: No cost to participants

The Police Department Youth Academy is an interactive program to inspire, build friendships and create bonds between our youth and the police officers serving our community. The program is geared to touch on the many facets of policing in an enjoyable, interactive and friendly way. Participants will be able to interact with officers and staff to learn some basics of policing.
Participants will have an opportunity to meet the Chief of Police, Detectives and various Officers representing many units within the department including civilian specialist/staff that makes the Department operate smoothly. Participants hear about state court proceedings and how the court system works together with law enforcement. Participants will learn about and interact with members of the SWAT team, Crisis Negotiation Team, Criminal Investigation Unit, the Bomb Squad, the Fire Department and Missouri Task Force 1 just to name a few. In addition, tours of the Police Department, Fire Department, Boone County Jail and the Boone County 911 Emergency Management Center will take place.
Free meals, snacks, drinks, and a T-shirt will be provided.
