The Support Services Bureau is headed by Assistant Chief John Gordon and Lieutenant Paul Dickinson. This Bureau contains the following:
The Community Service Aide unit is comprised of 8 full-time employees that offer support to the patrol officers. CSAs handle a wide range of calls which allows patrol officers to respond to violent or in-progress calls. Some of their responsibilities include: investigating traffic accidents, respond to parking violation complaints, take reports for non-violent calls such as property damage, stolen vehicle, vandalism and so on. They hold a partial commission, which means that they can issue traffic citations.
In September 2002, the Columbia Police Department dedicated one officer to the Crime Free program. Officer Jason McClintic is assigned to this position. The Property and Evidence Unit is comprised of civilian employees, including the Evidence Unit Supervisor Maria Logan. It is located at the police department, 600 E. Walnut Street, Columbia, MO 65201.
