Community Recreation

Community Recreation primarily serves the citizens of Central Columbia but targets low-income families and “at-risk” youth. The majority of the programs are offered to the public at little or no cost.

The offices of Community Recreation are located at the Armory Sports Center, 701 E. Ash Street. For more information about programs offered, staff can be contacted at 817-5077. (Information about youth and adult financial assistance)

Armory Summer Camp 2021 TBA 

Campers will be divided into small groups to ensure safety and social distancing guidelines. Staff will be planning activities that adhere to these guidelines such as crafts and games.   Note: your spot in camp is secured by payment.

After School Recreation

Activities, computer lab, and quiet classroom are available on a regular basis.
Monday – Friday during the school year, 2:30-6:30 pm

Computer Lab

Use is first-come first-served. When there are people waiting, time is limited to 30 minutes.

Use is first-come first-served. Four players maximum per court.

Intro to Yoga

This 6-week program is for students who are new to yoga or looking to reeducate and refine their current practice. Free, but advanced registration is required as space is limited. Call 573.874.6379 to register.

King of the Mountain Video Game Night 

Win and keep playing, lose and give up the controller. At the end of the night, the gamer with most wins gets a prize and ultimate bragging rights!

Little Bulldogs Cheer and Dance (spring dates TBA)

Free program for kids ages 5-12.  Learn the basics of dance and cheer routines and meet some new friends! Pre-registration is required as space is limited. COVID-19 guidelines will be enforced.

Mini-Workout Program

Come in and take advantage of Nautilus multi-station unit, treadmills, elliptical machines, recumbent and stationary bicycles, free-weights and other workout equipment.
Monday – Friday, 8 am – 7 pm or Saturday 9 am – 1 pm
Price: $20.00 for 8 weeks, or $2 per visit

Professional Development Aid

Need help creating or editing your resume? Want to practice interviewing for a job? Maybe you just want to learn how to tie a tie. Silver & Gold Seniors Club

The Silver & Gold Club is a mature adults group that meets to enjoy each other’s company.  If you are interested in fun and interesting activities such as ceramics, bingo, quilting, pokeno, card games, arts & crafts, field trips, park walks or movies, then join us. Smaller Ballers – spring 2021 dates TBA

Get an early start with this six-week youth basketball skills development program for 4-7 year olds. Each session consists of skills training, and then using the skills learned. 
It will be followed by scrimmage time on lowered goals. This is an instructional youth basketball program that focuses on the basic fundamental skills of the game.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi, as it is practiced in the West today, can be best thought of as a moving form of yoga and meditation combined. Please call 874-6379.

Saturday Game Room Drop In

Bored on Saturday mornings and afternoons? Come to the Armory with your family and friends to play ping pong, foosball, shuffleboard, air hockey, safe darts or just watch a movie.

“Reflections” Poetry Society

Shorin-Ryu Karate

Shorin-Ryu Okinawan style karate is a very serious martial art form. Call 874-7460 to register and find out about sessions.
