Park History

In 1985, Mr. Stanley Boxer proposed the donation of 3.06 acres to the City of Columbia, Parks & Recreation Department. The land was acquired by the City of Columbia in March 1986. The property is located north and northwest of the Providence Plaza Shopping Center in the north central part of the city. The majority of the site features fairly rugged and steep terrain which is heavily wooded. The property has approximately 500 feet of stream frontage floodplain along Bear Creek. The land’s rugged terrain prohibits development of the park, so it remains preserved green space that serves as a buffer between Parkade Subdivision and a commercial area. At the request of Mr. Stanley Boxer, the park was named in memory of his deceased son, William I. Boxer.
