The need for a neighborhood park in the vicinity of the area that is now known as the Auburn Hills Subdivision was identified in the 1994 Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan. The tract was purchased in 2002 from WWB Development Company, LLC for the purchase price of $150,000. Funding for the acquisition came from the voter-approved 1999 one-quarter cent capital improvement sales tax.
Auburn Hills was one of six new neighborhood parks that received funding for development from the 2005 Park Sales Tax. The park development was funded in Fiscal Year 2007, with a budget of $135,000, which included $100,000 from the Parks Sales Tax and $35,000 in force account labor.
An interested parties meeting for the park planning was held in July 2007. The City Council approved the park master plan in September 2007, and preliminary clearing work began in October 2007. Park development began in the spring of 2008 and the park was completed and dedicated on October 10, 2009.
