July is Parks and Recreation Month

In 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives designated July as National Park and Recreation Monthopens PDF file  in recognition of “the great societal value of parks and recreation facilities and their importance in local communities across the United States.”  Since then, hundreds of park and recreation agencies across the country engage with their communities during Park and Recreation Month each year.

Columbia joins them in this endeavor. Mayor Brian Treece has proclaimed July as Parks and Recreation Month in the City of Columbia, MO.

#OurParksAndRecStory

The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has selected “Our Park and Recreation Story!” as the theme for 2021.  NRPA is looking to highlight stories of how communities are stronger, more vibrant and more resilient because of parks and recreation.  Citizens are encouraged to share their park and recreation stories on social media using #OurParkAndRecStory.
