The dedication of the Kelly Baseball Field was held on May 12, 2018 in conjunction with Douglass Park’s annual Heritage Day celebration and the dedication of the Tapp-Elbert Memorial Amphitheater.  The baseball field was named after John and Rod Kelly, known as the “baseball brothers” at Douglass Park. The Kellys were instrumental in the formation of the Douglass Bulldog Baseball League, which began in 1996. A nice crowd of family, friends, associates, and community leaders gathered for the dedication. John Kelly was in attendance and addressed the audience during the ceremony. His brother, Rod Kelly, was unable to attend. Dedication speakers included:

  • Mike Griggs, Director of Columbia Parks and Recreation
  • Clyde Ruffin, Ward 1 Council Member
  • John Kelly

A dedication plaque was unveiled in honor of the Kellys.
