On April 1, 2020 two new types of federal leave may be available to you as we continue to work in this COVID 19 emergency situation. Federal legislation creates (1) an additional FMLA qualifying condition, and (2) a new Federal Emergency Sick Leave program. These leave provisions are in addition to the City of Columbia’s COVID-19 Compensation and Leave Policy issued by me on March 16, 2020. The new federal Coronavirus Response Leave Policy that outlines the new federal programs and an updated city COVID-19 Compensation and Leave Policy are attached. Both are effective tomorrow, April 1, 2020. The city COVID-19 Compensation and Leave Policy has been updated to clarify use of leave, reference the new federal law and update Centers for Disease Control guidance on return to work for any employee who has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. New leave request forms and instructions for reporting time under both the federal and city policies will be available before the end of this pay period. Please take time to review these policies.
