Proposed Drink Specials Regulations

At its November 6, 2017, meeting, the City Council considered a memo (REP87-17), from the Substance Abuse Advisory Commission, outlining the commission’s recommendations regarding alternative alcohol enforcement structures, alcohol outlet density, and drink specials. At its March 5, 2018, meeting, the City Council requested a report on drink specials, from the Public Health and Human Services, Police, and Law Departments.

At the February 4, 2019, City Council meeting, staff presented a report (REP7-19) on drink specials.

Following the presentation of the report, the City Council directed staff from the Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services (PHHS), the Columbia Police Department (CPD), City of Columbia Finance and Law to develop a draft ordinance prohibiting drink specials after 9 p.m.

Interested Parties Meeting

The City of Columbia conducted an interested parties meeting regarding proposed changes to the City of Columbia Code of Ordinances prohibiting certain types of drink specials on Monday, July 29, from 3 to 4 p.m., at City Hall, 701 E. Broadway, in the Council Chamber. Staff from the Public Health and Human Services, Police,  and Finance departments provided an overview of the draft regulations, fielded questions, and received feedback from the public.
