Local Boy Scouts Recognized For Saving Woman From Flood Waters

Dominic Viet and Joseph Diener were presented the Citizen Lifesaving Award on July 7 by Fire Chief Andy Woody for their heroic acts on Friday, June 25, 2021.  The award reads:

“On Friday, June 25, 2021, Boy Scouts Dominic Viet, 15, and Joseph Diener, 16, were riding their bicycles near Jay Dix Station, just off Scott Boulevard when they heard someone calling for help.

They discovered a female struggling in the flood water of Hinkson Creek.  The young men knew they needed to act fast if the female was going to survive.  The young men entered the water and were able to assist the victim to the shore shortly before the City of Columbia, Mo. Fire Department arrived.

In recognition of your selfless and courageous act of rendering aid in a sudden and dangerous situation which resulted in preservation of a life, you are awarded the Citizen Lifesaving Award.”

Police Chief Geoff Jones, Columbia Mayor Brian Treece and State Fire Marshal Tim Bean attended and honored Dominic and Joseph’s efforts on June 25.

We are very fortunate and proud these young men are a part of our community
