April Volunteer of the Month: Brittany Brandt

Brittany, a single mom, takes action beyond her own home, beyond her child and beyond herself. She impacts her neighborhood through her passion and vision for what her community can be.

Brittany has volunteered since she was 13 years old. Brittany and her family have participated in Cleanup Columbia, but it is her efforts to try and motivate others to take pride in their neighborhood that stands out. She has organized neighborhood cleanups for what she named the “Rice Road Crew,” incorporating social activities to bring neighbors together.

As volunteers, we have many hopes and visions for our community. “It is important (to volunteer) because people are watching, they may want to get involved, but they don’t think they can, or they may feel silly because no one in their inner circle is serving the community,” Brittany said.

It is important as we move through our busy lives that we consider how little actions can have a big impact on others.
