The USS Columbia was christened in September 1994 by former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, who was the boat’s sponsor. 2015 marked the 20th anniversary of the boat’s Commissioning, which took place on October 9, 1995. The boat has namesake cities in Missouri, Illinois, and South Carolina. Columbia, Mo., and the USS Columbia is one of the Navy’s longest, continuously active Namesake City programs.
