Bike on the Katy Trail by Colette Brumbaugh
2012 Commemorative Poster
A native Missourian and Columbia resident, Colette Brumbaugh graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute with a Bachelors of Fine Art in painting and was awarded a full assistantship to the graduate program at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. Primarily a plein air painter and watercolorist, Colette works from the natural beauty of the landscape and travels frequently to paint and gain inspiration from nature for her work. She is a member and exhibitor with both the Columbia Palette Group and Columbia Art League.
“There is an old homestead on the Missouri River near Easley that I visit frequently to paint. I was struck at how timeless this view was: the rusty bike leaning against the last remnant of fencing with the abandoned rail road paralleling the river. It was a visual time capsule, but also a living connector with barges following the river and bikes still riding the Katy Trail. It was that sense of nostalgia and vibrancy that I strove to capture in this image.” – Colette Brumbaugh
