At Boone Hospital Center, beautiful artwork helps create a calming, healing environment for patients and families. Inside the hospital’s south tower, which opened in 2011, hundreds of natureinspired pieces adorn public spaces and patient care units. Most pieces are from local Missouri artists. The hospital has two large pieces depicting Columbia from a bird’s eye perspective from noted Columbia artist David Spear. In addition, outdoor sculptures and fountains make for an artful hospital campus, including sculptor Larry Young’s “Nexus” at the corner of Broadway and Old 63. Dedicated in 1996, “Nexus” is now a landmark in Columbia.
