The city manager position was vacated Nov. 22, 2018, and City Council appointed John Glascock as interim city manager until a permanent city manager could be hired. City manager finalists John Glascock and James “Jim” Palenick will participate in an on-site interview process scheduled for July 10 and 11. On July 10, the candidates will have individual interviews with each Council Member and the Mayor, a community tour, candidate sessions with senior staff and a public reception. On July 11, candidates will be available to the press and will conclude with a closed-session interview with the entire Council. The public reception on July 10 will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Columbia City Hall, 701 E. Broadway. Members of the community are invited to meet and interact with the finalists.

Consultants from CPS HR will meet with members of the City Council on Thursday, June 6 in a closed session to interview candidates.
The city manager position is open on the CPS HR website and in the active recruitment phase. The job posting can be found here:
Application review will begin on April 26 and a closed Council meeting is scheduled for May 8 to review candidates with the consultant and choose the first round of candidates to interview.
First round interviews with candidates are scheduled for June 6; finalist interviews are scheduled for June 20-21.
The city manager search survey closed after being open for three weeks.
The City of Columbia city manager search survey is now open and accepting input from community members on values and attributes that are desired in Columbia’s next city manager. Responses will be accepted until Friday, March 15.
The consultant firm hired by the Columbia City Council to conduct the search, CPS HR Consulting, is administering the survey.

The public involvement process is important so all voices are heard. Every Columbia resident is welcome to fill out the survey to share their thoughts on personal and professional characteristics they’d like to see in the next leader of our community.
After the survey completion deadline, CPS HR will present the aggregate data from the surveys as a report to City Council to assist in the city manager search process.
This “word cloud” visually depicts the many attributes, values and personal and professional characteristics community members expressed in multiple input meetings that they would like to see in the next city manager for Columbia. This information will help develop our community recruitment profile.
Word clouds (also known as text clouds or tag clouds) work in a simple way: the more a specific word appears in a source of data (in this case the community input and stakeholder meetings), the bigger and bolder it appears in the word cloud.

Community input meetings scheduled for Feb. 6-7
The City of Columbia invites community members to provide their input on the values and attributes that are desired in Columbia’s next city manager. The consultants hired by the Columbia City Council to conduct the search, CPS HR Consulting, will facilitate two meetings for the community to provide feedback:
Wednesday, Feb. 6, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 7, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Additionally, there will be an online survey posted on opens in a new windowCoMo.gov to gather input from those unable to attend the community meetings. The survey will be posted in the days following the meetings and will be open for three weeks.
