Police Arrest Final Suspect in 2009 Home Invasion Robbery
On 5/4/09 at 1:36 A.M., Officers were dispatched to 3700 Bent Oak Drive on a report of a robbery in progress. The victim, a 64 year old man who was in a motorized wheelchair, reported four black males entered his home through an unlocked back door. The victim said the two out of the four black males had shotguns. The victim stated one of the black males pointed the shot gun at him and they demanded money.
The victim told police that during the robbery it appeared one of the suspects seemed to be in charge. The victim said this suspect stayed in the room with him while the other three searched the house and woke up his roommate, a 57 year old female. The victim said the suspects made his roommate get on the ground. The victim said when he yelled to his roommate to call 9-1-1 it angered the suspect in charge. The suspect in charge then struck him in the face with the butt of the shot gun.
The victim said the suspects rummaged the entire house stealing property and also stole his car, a 2004 silver Saturn VUE.
Police located the stolen vehicle abandoned at the intersection of Derby Ridge Drive and Native Dancer Court. The Columbia Police K-9 Unit tracked the suspects to the rear door of 1523 Native Dancer, which was discovered to be the residence of a relative of two of the suspects, Avery and Wesley Nelson. Avery Nelson was later identified in a photo lineup as the suspect believed to be in charge. The following suspects were arrested in this case:
