Columbia Public Works announces the sewer smoke testing which started earlier this summer has been completed by the contractor. The smoke testing is part of the city's attempt to prevent infilration and inflow of storm water into the sanitary sewer system. Large inflows of storm water increases the demand on waste water treatment facilities and can cause backup of sewers into basements and other low places in homes and businesses.
We appreciate the patience of the residents in the areas where smoke testing was being performed as we work to improve Columbia's sanitary sewer system.
