Overnight Fire on Chapel Hill

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 1801 Chapel Hill Road at 1:43am on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

The first unit arrived less than five minutes later and reported heavy fire coming from the garage.  Crews deployed multiple preconnected hose lines and brought the fire under control after aggressive fire fighting on the exterior and interior of the home.  While much of the fire was contained to the garage side of the home there was extension into the upper level, attic and roof.

Fire investigators determined the fire originated in the garage and was the result of an electrical failure.  Damage is estimated at $200,000.  All occupants exited safely, there were no reported injuries.

The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms save lives.  You should have one on every level of your home and outside spaces where people sleep.  Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button.  Smoke alarm batteries should be replaced annually.  If you own your home and not able to purchase a smoke alarm, contact the Columbia Fire Department for information on our smoke alarm program.  We can be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone at 573-874-7391.
