Voluntary Action Center and Downtown Optimist Club will hold "Homes for Computers" distribution Saturday, Feb. 27

(COLUMBIA, MO) - On Saturday, Feb. 27, 50 used computers will find new homes in local households. The City, the Voluntary Action Center (VAC) and the Downtown Optimist Club partner each year to provide surplus (used) computers and equipment to eligible VAC clients as part of the Homes for Computers Program.

The used computers are given away to residents identified by VAC. The City’s Information Technology Department prepares the computers for distribution with testing and cleaning done by the Downtown Optimist Club. The City of Columbia provided the computers and monitors are provided by Boyce & Bynum, Columbia Insurance Group and Boone County Government.

Clients selected for a computer have been contacted by VAC and will receive their computer Saturday, Feb. 27. Computers will be distributed by the Downtown Optimist Club between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the Downtown Optimist Club Building, 1201 Grand Ave., in a drive-thru event.

The Homes for Computers Program was approved by City Council December 2003. This year’s program will bring the total number of donated computers to more than 700.

Questions about the giveaway should be directed to Olivia Little with the Voluntary Action Center at 573.874.2273.
