City of Columbia plow crews report at 7 p.m. to continue winter weather response, Feb. 16

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

A 27-person crew reported at 7 p.m., replacing the day shift, to continue responding to winter weather. Crews will continue plowing neighborhood routes until snow is imminent and then will transition to treating priority routes. Snow is currently forecast to continue through Wednesday, Feb. 17. Accumulations are forecast to be one to three inches. Due to extreme cold temperatures, slick areas may be expected.

Although a street may still be snow packed, a street is considered passable once an inspector determines that at least one travel lane is accessible for a front wheel drive vehicle at driving speeds well below the normal posted speed limits. Examples of passable roads may be found on our website at CoMo.gov/comosnow/home/examples-of-passable-roads/

The City encourages all residents to voluntarily move their vehicles off all streets; however, parking enforcement will only occur on priority routes. Whenever snow accumulates more than two inches, any vehicle parked on a designated snow route must be moved off of the roadway or risk a fine of $100 plus towing and storage charges

Residents are reminded to remove snow from sidewalks adjacent to the property they own or rent. Sidewalks are used by residents to get to school, work and shopping. The City appreciates the effort to keep our sidewalks accessible.

Public Works and City staff will continue to closely monitor road conditions and adjust operational plans as needed. As winter weather can be unpredictable, residents are encouraged to closely monitor the forecast and changing road conditions throughout the mid-Missouri area. Motorists are advised to drive with caution.

Additional updates will be available via press release, on the City’s social media pages and at CoMoSnow.com.
