Columbia Fire Department Responds to Two Structure Fires Overnight

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Fire Department responded to two structure fires five minutes apart overnight on Monday, February 1, 2021.

At 2:18am the Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 1511 Rosemary Lane.  The first unit arrived less than five minutes later and reported heavy smoke showing on the south side of a two story home.  Fire crews encountered fire in a bedroom on the second floor and contained the fire to that room.  

Fire investigators determined the origin of the fire was a closet in the second story bedroom.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  Damage is estimated at $50,000.  

There were no reported injuries.  The Red Cross was notified and is assisting the occupants.  Seven units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to this call.  

At 2:23am the Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 2621 Quail Drive.  The first unit arrived less then seven minutes later and reported smoke showing from the roof of a fourplex apartment building.  Fire crews entered and found fire in the kitchen of an upstairs unit.  The fire was contained to the kitchen.

Fire investigators determined the origin of the fire was the kitchen in apartment B.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  Damage is estimated at $112,000.

Two occupants of apartment B were transported to the hospital for evaluation of non-life threatening injuries.  There were no other reported injuries.  The Red Cross was notified and has offered assistance to the occupants.

Six units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to this call.
