Residential Structure Fire on Blackford Court

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 4608 Blackford Court at 7:15pm on Saturday, January 23, 2021.

The first unit arrived less than five minutes later and reported heavy fire involvement. Fire crews performed an aggressive fire attack however, the fire had progressed significantly prior to our arrival and ultimately consumed the entire attic and roof.

Fire investigators determined the fire originated in a side yard and moved up an outside wall.  The cause of the fire was improperly discarded ashes from a fire pit.  Damage is estimated at $201,000.  There were no reported injuries.

The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that hot embers should be doused with water and discarded in a metal container with a lid.

Ten units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to this call.
