Residential structure fire in the 200 block of Ruby Ln. on Jan. 11, one fatality reported

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

The Columbia Police Department and the Columbia Fire Department were dispatched to a structure fire at a residence in the 200 block of Ruby Ln.at approximately 10:40 a.m. on Jan. 11.

CPD arrived at the residence and observed smoke and flames through a window of a room in the rear of the residence. Fire crews brought the fire under control in about five minutes. 

During the investigation, it was learned the fire was confined to one room and caused significant damage. 

A body was located in the room and was identified as George Ray Grant, 66, of Columbia. Next of kin has been notified. 

A second person had been inside the residence and escaped the fire with minor injuries. At this time, no foul play is suspected. 

The cause of death will not be determined until further investigation. More information may become available at a later time.
