City of Columbia Public Works plow crews are scheduled to report at 11 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31 to prepare for the chance of snow, freezing rain and potential slickness expected Thursday night through Friday, Jan. 1. The crew will focus on pretreating first, second and third priority streets. A second crew is scheduled to report Friday, Jan. 1 at 7 a.m.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning with heavy mixed precipitation, including ice and snow, expected for mid-Missouri beginning tonight at midnight. The conditions could impact Friday morning commute with slick road conditions. Freezing rain is expected to arrive after midnight with road slickness at onset due to pavement temperatures being below freezing.
Public Works and City staff will continue to closely monitor road conditions and adjust operational plans as needed. As winter weather can be unpredictable, residents are encouraged to closely monitor the forecast and changing road conditions throughout the mid-Missouri area. Motorists are advised to drive with caution.
Additional updates will be available via press release, on the City's social media pages and CoMoSnow.com.
