Statement from Chief Jones
To the extent the law allows, I want to add context to the community’s conversation regarding an incident that occurred on Dec. 11, in the 300 block of Brewer Drive.
Columbia Police officers responded to a report of an assault with a weapon. The people involved in the use of force are involved with or associated to the incident described in the attached Probable Cause Statement.
At this time, there is a pending criminal prosecution relating to the arrest of a suspect involved in the assault. As in any criminal prosecution, defendants are entitled to a fair, public trial under the Sixth Amendment to the US Constitution.
To maintain the integrity of the prosecution and in compliance with Missouri’s Sunshine Laws, we cannot release any investigative reports or video footage relating to the incident. We will release additional information when we are able to do so.
