(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 603 McBaine Avenue on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 3:39am.
The first unit arrived at 3:44am and reported heavy fire on the front of the single story home. Fire crews conducted search, rescue and an aggressive fire attack using two preconnected hose lines. The single occupant of the home escaped safely.
The fire was brought under control in approximately ten minutes. A dog perished in the fire. There were no other reported injuries. Fire investigators are performing a fire origin and cause investigation. Damage is estimated at over $30,000. Additional investigative information will be released as it becomes available. The Red Cross is assisting the occupant of the home.
Smoke alarms save lives. The occupant of this home received early notification, enabling them to escape safely, from a working smoke alarm.
