At approximately 3:41 p.m. on Oct. 4, Columbia police responded to a second report of shots fired in the 400 block of Oak St., where more than 40 shell casings were located on the scene.
A recent incident of shots fired occurred on Friday Oct. 2, in the same area causing property damage to a nearby residence.
Upon arrival, officers learned there was an exchange of gunfire from two separate groups within close proximity of one another.
During the investigation, officers located property damage to a residence and several parked vehicles in the area. There were no injuries reported at the time of the incident.
"The frequency of these incidents of gunfire is unacceptable and will not be tolerated," said Assistant Chief of Police Brian Richenberger. "Under the leadership of Chief Geoff Jones, CPD will pour all of our available resources into this investigation in order to prevent any future harm to innocent bystanders in our community."
At this time, there is no suspect description or vehicle description available. This is an active investigation and has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Division.
If you know something, say something. Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to please contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652 or CrimeStoppers at 573.875.TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
