At approximately 9:47 p.m. on Oct. 1, Columbia police responded to a report of shots heard near South Ninth and Elm Streets.
Upon arrival, officers canvassed the area for evidence and spoke with several witnesses who also reported hearing a single gunshot. Witnesses also reported seeing a grey four-door sedan traveling south when an individual exited the vehicle and shot at another person who was outside of the vehicle.
Officers were advised by Boone County Joint Communications that the possible suspects had run onto the University of Missouri campus. Those individuals were located by MUPD officers, but were later released due to a lack of evidence of their involvement.
There were no injuries or damage reported during this incident. There is no suspect description available at this time.
Crime Scene Technicians arrived and processed the scene for evidence. It is not believed that the community is at risk.
