Beginning Monday, Aug. 31, at 7 a.m., Twehouse Excavating Co. Inc., contractor for City of Columbia Sewer Utility, plans to continue work on the Fifth to Wilkes Sewer Relief Project Phase 1. This will result in a complete road closure of the intersection of Hickman Avenue and North Sixth Street to traffic in all directions.
Traffic will be detoured around the closure via temporary traffic control devices. The work associated with the closure is scheduled to be completed by Monday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m., weather permitting.
Both traffic lanes of North Sixth Street will also be closed to through traffic between Hickman Avenue and Wilkes Boulevard to allow for construction of sanitary sewer infrastructure until Monday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m., weather permitting.
Motorists, pedestrians and nonmotorized transportation users are urged to exercise extreme caution when in the work zone and find alternate routes.
