The Columbia Police Department will have additional officers on patrol on Friday, Aug. 21, and Saturday, Aug. 22 due to the large number of students returning to Columbia. Classes start on some campuses next week.
Historically, CPD assigns additional officers to be available during large events. Officers will be patrolling in East Campus and other densely student-populated areas off-campus. They will be proactively looking for peace disturbances, alcohol-related issues, or other law violations.
Officers also will be supporting Columbia/Boone County Health Order 2020-09. In addition to other health precautions, the order requires maintaining a 6-foot social distance; wearing a mask when social distancing cannot be maintained; and limiting the size of gatherings.
CPD will be working closely with the University of Missouri Police Department if students are not following the health order, which could result in a student code of conduct violation.
Violations of the health order can be reported by emailing City@CoMo.gov or by calling 573.874.CITY (2489). If a customer at a business refuses to wear a mask and is causing immediate danger to the business's staff, please call 911.
