Beginning Wednesday, July 15, at 7 a.m., Twehouse Excavating Co. Inc., contractor for City of Columbia Sanitary Sewer Utility, plans to begin the Fifth to Wilkes Sewer Relief Project Phase 1. This will result in a complete road closure of the intersection of Rogers Street and North Fifth Street to traffic in all directions. Traffic will be detoured around the closure via temporary traffic control devices. The work associated with the closure is scheduled to be completed by July 29 at 5 p.m., weather permitting.
Due to the detour, Go COMO, Columbia’s public transit system, will have to bypass the bus stops located at Eighth Street and Park Street, Fifth Street and Park Street, and Fifth Street and Rogers Street for both the Orange and Gold fixed routes. The bus stop at Rogers Street at Douglas Park will also be inaccessible on the Gold route. Riders may visit gocomotransit.com to view the map of other bus stop locations.
Motorists, pedestrians and nonmotorized transportation users are urged to exercise extreme caution when in the work zone and find alternate routes.
