Columbia Parks and Recreation, in cooperation with the Douglass Athletic Association, is planning two free youth baseball clinics to kick off the 2020 season.
The first clinic will be held Saturday, June 20 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Douglass Park’s Kelly Field, 400 N. Providence Road. A second one will be held on Saturday, June 27, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Douglass Park. No registration is needed, both clinics are free.
Boys and girls ages 5-10 will be able to learn basic baseball skills, in preparation for the Douglass baseball season. Baseball players from local colleges and high schools will be available to interact with participants, using a safe social distance throughout the morning.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own gloves and bats, or some will be available for use. Equipment will be sanitized between uses. The clinics will end with grilled hot dogs served to participants, provided by the Douglass Athletic Association.
Douglass baseball is designed to promote a fun, non-competitive environment for boys and girls to learn the basics of the sport. This year’s season will begin the week of July 6. All games are played at Douglass Park’s Kelly Field.
Registration fee for the season is $27 per child, if the registration is received by July 1. After that date, the price is $32 per child.
Registration forms are available at Columbia Parks and Recreation’s administrative office at 1 S. 7th St., the Armory Sports and Community Center, 701 E. Ash St. or online at https://www.como.gov/parksandrec/programs-registration/community-recreation/douglass-youth-baseball/. Registration forms and payment should be returned to one of these locations or mailed to Douglass Athletic Assoc., P.O. Box 7296, Columbia, MO 65205.
Opportunities are available to assist the league by becoming volunteer coaches and umpires. For more information, contact Ca-Sandra Gunn at 573.355.8920 or call the Armory staff at 573.817.5077.
