Commercial Structure Fire at Dollar General

The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at 3700 Flanders Court, Dollar General, at 12:11 am on Monday, June 1, 2020.

The first unit arrived less than four minutes later and observed heavy smoke from a single story, commercial structure.  Fire crews established a water supply from a fire hydrant and began an aggressive interior fire attack and search of the building.  They encountered heavy smoke and extreme heat upon entering.  Additional pre-connected hose lines were advanced to the building and aerial devices equipped with water nozzles were extended as additional fire companies arrived on the scene.   Heavy fire was also reported in the attic space.

The incident commander struck a second alarm at approximately 12:35 am, requesting additional personnel and apparatus.

The incident was brought under control in approximately one hour.  The Fire Marshal was dispatched to perform a fire origin and cause investigation.

This fire is suspicious in nature.  Columbia Fire Department investigators are working with Columbia Police Department detectives on the cause of the fire.  There is no additional information at this time, from either department.  Additional information will be released when it becomes available.

This is the second fire at this address in the past three weeks.  A previous fire occurred on May 11, 2020.

Eleven units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to this call. One firefighter was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
