Health message
The CDC advises the general public to wear gloves when cleaning and disinfecting a home or when caring for someone who is sick. Wearing gloves outside of these instances will not necessarily protect from getting COVID-19. The CDC recommends the best way to protect from germs is to social distance (maintain six feet) from others and wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
The CDC recommends the following tips for wearing gloves:
- Use disposable gloves when cleaning surfaces that are frequently touched and areas around a person who is sick.
- Use disposable gloves when in contact with blood, stool or bodily fluids.
- Do not disinfect or reuse disposable gloves. Always throw disposable gloves away in a lined trash can.
- Always wash your hands after you remove disposable gloves.
