Route H open to traffic ahead of schedule; occasional temporary lane closures may continue

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

City of Columbia contractors have completed the relocation of Route H near Columbia Regional Airport. The previous section of Route H is no longer in service for through traffic. All traffic should now use the new Route H. While Route H is now open to two-way traffic, occasional temporary lane closures may be required as final work on the project is completed.

The Route H relocation, which was identified and approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will allow the extension of Columbia Regional Airport’s primary runway 900 feet to the north scheduled for construction in 2021.

DETAILS:

Beginning Monday, April 6, a section of Route H on the northeast side of the Columbia Regional Airport is scheduled to be closed to through traffic for approximately 30 days, weather permitting. Access to Airport Drive and the Columbia Regional Airport from Highway 63 shall remain open throughout construction. Utility work is taking place prior to construction, weather permitting. Minor delays may occur.

The closure of Route H, east of Airport Drive, is required to complete the connection of the relocated Route H. Emery Sapp & Sons is the City of Columbia's contractor for the project. This relocation will allow the extension of the primary airport runway 900 feet to the north and was identified and approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Rangeline Road and most of the newly relocated Route H will remain open during the closure to provide alternate routes to the north and south. Motorists, nonmotorized transportation users and pedestrians are urged to exercise extreme caution in the work zone and to use alternate routes.
