On Wednesday, April 22, Columbia police arrested Roderick Jones, 36, of Columbia, on several felony charges. Prior to his arrest, Jones had an active warrant for Domestic Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and a $100,000 cash bond only.
At approximately 12:19 p.m., CPD officers were provided a tip that Jones’ vehicle was located in the 2300 block of Parker Road. Upon arrival, officers were able to identify and determine that the suspect’s vehicle was there. Officers proceeded to make contact with neighbors to determine the residence in which Jones may be hiding.
When officers attempted to make contact with Jones, he barricaded himself in the residence. Officers proceeded to request additional resources which included members of the Violent Crimes Task Force, Street Crimes Unit and K-9 unit.
The BearCat, a personal protective vehicle, was also positioned at the scene. After 30 minutes of negotiations with the Patrol and Street Crimes Units, Jones surrendered.
Earlier this year, Jones had been identified as a suspect in a domestic assault incident where he fled the scene of the crime. He was also seen in this same area on April 16, which prompted CPD to ask the public for assistance in locating the suspect. CPD is grateful for the assistance of the citizens who provided the tip to help take a violent felon off of the streets.
This is an active and ongoing investigation. There are no further details to provide at this time. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to please contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652 or CrimeStoppers at 573.875.TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
