Nifong roundabouts rescheduled to begin April 27 at Sinclair Road and May 4 at Old Mill Creek Road

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Emery Sapp & Sons, contractor for the City of Columbia, plans to begin construction of two single-lane roundabouts, expandable in the future to partial dual-lane roundabouts, on Nifong Boulevard at Sinclair Road beginning Monday, April 27, and at Old Mill Creek Road on Monday, May 4, weather permitting. The goal is to have both new roundabouts operational by late summer and fully completed by early fall 2020 in conjunction with the opening of the school year.

The roundabouts will be constructed on Nifong Boulevard at Sinclair Road and at Old Mill Creek Road/Country Woods Road. Both intersections are currently four-way stops. Nifong Boulevard and Vawter School Road will remain open in both directions throughout the project with some lane restrictions. Traffic delays are possible.

Access to Sinclair Road on the south side of the Nifong Boulevard intersection will close during construction beginning April 27, weather permitting. Access will be maintained via Southampton Drive. Access to Sinclair Road on the north side of Nifong Boulevard will remain open throughout the project with some lane restrictions. Traffic delays are possible.

Work on the roundabout at Old Mill Creek Road/Country Woods road will begin on Monday, May 4, 2020, weather permitting. Access to Country Woods Road will close at the Nifong Boulevard/Vawter School Road intersection during construction but will remain accessible via Woods Edge Road.

Construction was listed in state and local stay at home orders as an essential activity. Proceeding with infrastructure investments in a safe and responsible manner not only ensures that these safety improvements are completed in a timely manner but essential construction is also beneficial to the local economy, including but not limited to contractors, workers and suppliers.

Contractors will use enhanced safety measures for field personnel during construction including limiting the size of labor crews, keeping equipment clean and social distancing, among other steps.

Contractors and construction sites will be subject to additional safety inspections and protocols to monitor adherence to pandemic-related City ordinances, regulations and guidelines adopted by Columbia City Council and the Columbia/Boone County Department of Health and Human Services.

Complete project details are available at CoMo.gov/PublicWorks/Nifong-Sinclair-OldMillCreek.
