Columbia Police officers responded to the 700 block of McBaine Avenue in reference to multiple calls of shots heard at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8. 911 callers reported hearing multiple shots fired in the area of McBaine Avenue and Sexton Road.
Officers arrived and immediately began searching the area for any victims and suspect(s). During the investigation, officers located shell casings in the area. There were no injuries reported, however, there were adults and children who were outside and endangered by the gunfire. Officers did locate multiple vehicles and a residence that were damaged by gunfire.
"I appreciate any and all help from our community during this investigation," said Police Chief Geoff Jones. "We will pursue those responsible in an effort to keep others safe. If you see something, say something; we are here to support you and others who are fed up with this violence."
Patrol officers were assisted by the Columbia Police Department’s Investigation Operations Support Bureau and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Detectives are actively investigating this incident. This is an ongoing investigation. There are no further details to provide at this time.
