[UPDATE]: Overnight crack seal operations planned on North Providence and other roads beginning March 9

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

City of Columbia Public Works plans to perform crack sealing operations on North Providence Road, between Blue Ridge Road and Rain Forest Parkway, and other areas in Columbia, beginning March 9, weather permitting. This work is scheduled to take place during the overnight hours from 8:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Crack sealing involves using a liquid asphalt substance to seal minor cracks along asphalt and concrete streets and between concrete panels. Sealing the cracks reduces the infiltration of water and subsequent roadway damage from freezing and thawing.  While labor-intensive, crack sealing is one of the most beneficial forms of pavement preservation treatments.

Though subject to change due to weather or other factors, work is currently planned in the following areas:

  • North Providence Road, between Blue Ridge Road and Rain Forest Parkway
  • Green Meadows Road and Providence Road Intersection
  • Bethel Street and Southampton Drive Intersection
  • Columbia Regional Airport

Motorists are asked to watch for workers in the roadway and be prepared to slow down. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone. Motorists, nonmotorized transportation users and pedestrians are encouraged to find alternate routes if possible and to use extreme caution. Minor traffic delays are possible.
