At approximately 1:36 a.m., Feb. 24, CPD was notified that a man had been assaulted with a pole at 511 E. Walnut St., inside the lobby of the U.S. Post office located in downtown Columbia.
The victim was reported to have left the U.S. Post office and walked to the Columbia Police Department after the assault. Officers made contact with the man in the lobby of the police department and emergency medical personnel arrived and transported the victim to a hospital to treat life-threatening injuries.
Eddie B. Linzie, 43, of Columbia, was arrested for assault in the first degree and armed criminal action. Linzie remains in custody at the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.
This is an ongoing investigation, and there is no additional information to release at this time.
