Columbia Police investigate reported home invasion, one suspect dead

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Columbia Police responded to a report of a home invasion at a residence in the 1400 block of Doris Drive at approximately 7:10 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5


The resident reported that two suspects entered the residence. During the incident, one suspect was struck by gunfire from the resident and was pronounced dead on the scene by Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The deceased was identified as Joseph Valention Taylor, 17, of Columbia. Next of kin has been notified.


The second suspect left the area before officers' arrival, responding officers immediately set up a perimeter. The K-9 unit began a track on the suspect but was unsuccessful. He was described as a black male with short hair, wearing blue jeans, a white shirt and white shoes. 


With assistance from the Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) unit, detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) are actively investigating this incident. As this is an ongoing investigation, there are no further details to provide at this time.
