Columbia Police responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 19 N. Fifth St. at 2:35 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2. Police found two victims who had suffered serious gunshot wounds. Both victims were immediately transported to a local trauma center where one was pronounced dead and the other is receiving medical care.
The deceased victim has been identified as Tershawn E. Kitchen, 34, of Columbia. Next of kin has been notified.
The second victim is a 30-year-old female.
Columbia Police detectives and the Crime Scene Investigation Team (CSI) gathered evidence and processed the scene.
CPD has a person of interest detained. There is no additional information to share at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
The Violent Crime Task Force will review any incidence of violence that involves a firearm and will be working in conjunction with partnering agencies to resolve these cases.
