Commercial Structure Fire at Tiger Village Apartments

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at 305 Tiger Lane, Tiger Village Apartments, apartment 122 at 1:56am on Sunday, February 2, 2020.

The first unit arrived less than four minutes later and reported flames from a third floor balcony / walkway.  Crews deployed a pre-connected hose line and had the fire extinguished in approximately five minutes.  The integrity of the walkway was compromised so the occupants of the third floor were relocated by apartment management.  The fire department’s technical rescue truck was dispatched and used to provide temporary shoring for the walkway.  The City’s Building and Site Development was also notified.

An Assistant Fire Marshal was dispatched to perform a fire origin and cause investigation.  It was determined that the fire originated on the walkway in front of apartment 122.  The cause is undetermined but improperly discarded smoking material cannot be ruled out.  Damage is estimated at $20,000.

Seven units from the Columbia Fire Department were dispatched to this call.  There were no reported injuries.
