A 22-person City of Columbia Public Works plow crew plans to report early Friday morning, at 5 a.m., Jan. 17, to continue treating roads ahead of forecast winter weather conditions. Crews pretreated hills, intersections and curves throughout the community today, Jan. 16.
Even with pretreatments, widespread slickness may occur before or during the Friday morning commute. Motorists are urged to drive with extreme caution, allow plenty of time for their commute or delay travel if slick road conditions occur. The forecast calls for some combination of a wintry mix, sleet, snow and potential ice with forecast rain to follow later in the day.
Go COMO, Columbia’s public transit system, is currently scheduled to maintain its regular fixed route and paratransit services on Friday, Jan. 17 and Saturday, Jan. 18. Columbia Regional Airport is open to commercial and general aviation traffic. Individual airlines will determine their flight status in and out of COU. Travelers should check their flight status with their airline and arrive early at the airport.
Utility crews are on standby should there be any power outages. Customers can report a power outage by calling 573.875.2555 and view outages via the Outage Viewer: gis.gocolumbiamo.com/public%20outage%20map/
City personnel will continue to closely monitor road conditions and adjust operational plans as needed. Additional updates will be available via press release, on the City’s social media pages and at CoMoSnow.com.
