(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 200-B Unity Drive on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at 2:46pm. The first unit arrived on the scene less than five minutes later and reported smoke showing from a single story structure. Citizens on the scene advised all occupants exited safely.
Fire crews deployed a pre-connected hose line and performed an aggressive fire attack. The event was brought under control in approximately ten minutes. An Assistant Fire Marshal was dispatched to perform a fire origin and cause investigation.
The investigation revealed the fire originated in the kitchen and was a result of unattended cooking. Damage is estimated at $5,000 and was contained to the kitchen.
